Scientific research has proven, conclusively that culling, when used as an avian control particularly in respect of pigeons will act to increase bird numbers in a given area rather than reduce numbers. The pigeon populations will breed back to the pre-cull figure within a matter of weeks following a cull. In most cases commercial pest controllers put profit before the provision of a good and lasting service and they offer simply will be a quick-fix (normally culling) and the pigeon populations will breed back within a matter of weeks. This is because culling has been proven to increase pigeon flock size by between 15% and 30%. In the main, pest control contractors will recommend a combination of culling and the installation of deterrents to the client. The pest control contractor suggest that culling reduces the impact on the property following the installation of deterrents. Clearly this does not make sense – if the correct deterrent is chosen in the right areas. The reality is that the culling operation is completely unnecessary and sold to the client simply as an additional and worthless service. This is because both of these services are highly profitable.
To control pigeons population in the cities, their production should be targeted not the bird itself. There is no reason to sentence pigeons to such grizzly deaths with unnecessary pain and distress.

Pigeon fertilizer is excellent for trees, including pistachios and garden plants. It also has a unique performance in planting and planting melons. It also acts as an anti-parasite and softens the soil. The liquor fertilizer was used for cabbage and caviar, especially during the Safavid times. Pigeon Dove was a great value for Europeans when they had pigeon houses and kept pigeons on top of their homes.
PIGEONS DELIVER MESSAGES
Pigeons deliver lifesaving medications and provide valuable messenger service in remote areas, as they have for thousands of years. The first large-scale communication network using pigeons as messengers was established in Syria and Persia around 5B.C. The news agency Reuters was started in 1850 with 45 pigeons carrying news and stock prices from Germany and Belgium.

Pigeons are considered to be one of the most intelligent birds on the planet and able to undertake tasks previously thought to be the sole preserve of humans and primates. The pigeon has also been found to pass the ‘mirror test’ (being able to recognize its reflection in a mirror) and is one of only 6 species, and the only non-mammal, that has this ability. The pigeon can also recognize all 26 letters of the English language as well as being able to conceptualize. In scientific tests pigeons have been found to be able to differentiate between photographs and even differentiate between two different human beings in a photograph when rewarded with food for doing so.

Lots of people enjoy their interactions with these charming birds, which have long drawn the crowds in tourist hotspots such as Venice’s Piazza San Marco.
And let’s not forget that feral pigeons are some of the most beautiful birds you could hope to see. Their plumage has a multitude of different colours, including metallic greens, bronzes and purples on the neck, as well as exquisite wing patterns.
PIGEONS SAVED MANY LIVES IN WARS
Carrier pigeons have long played an important role in Wars. Due to their homing ability, speed and altitude, they were often used as military messengers, and 32 such pigeons were presented with the Dickin Medal.
During World War I and World War II, carrier pigeons were used to transport messages back to their home coop behind the lines. When they landed, wires in the coop would sound a bell or buzzer and a soldier of the Signal Corps would know a message had arrived. He or she would go to the coop, remove the message from the canister, and send it to its destination by telegraph, field phone, or personal messenger.
A carrier pigeon’s job was dangerous. Nearby enemy soldiers often tried to shoot down pigeons, knowing that released birds were carrying important messages. Some of these pigeons became quite famous among the infantrymen they worked for. One pigeon, named “The Mocker”, flew 52 missions before he was wounded. Another, named “Cher Ami”, lost her foot and one eye, but her message got through, saving a large group of surrounded American infantrymen.
